Samsung is integrating Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass into a single app named Samsung Wallet to streamline its app portfolio. The app merging process started in South Korea last week and is now extending to the US, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, and Germany. In the next months, other regions are anticipated to be added.
The new unified Samsung Wallet app can store payment, membership, and gift cards, as well as digital keys, IDs, health and boarding tickets, and digital assets like blockchain wallets. The digital automotive key feature will be available on select BMW vehicles made after July 2020, as well as several Hyundai and Genesis cars starting in 2021. Driver's licences and student IDs will be supported in the future. Samsung Pass will continue to cover password management and access to digital assets such as cryptocurrencies.
